When the Stearns County Courthouse was completed in 1922, the building was home to more than just the county’s legal business.
From the soundstage to a Beverly Hills mansion to the gleaming Pacific Ocean, Stars Collide takes you on a roller-coaster tour of Hollywood, packing both comedic punch and tender emotion. If you want more of Bella, DJ, Brock Benson, and other favorite characters from.
It had a community room, a kitchen and men’s and women’s dormitories on the fourth floor for people who had to make the long trip from western Stearns County to St. Cloud.
At a cost of $850,000, the courthouse showcases granite from Cold Spring on its exterior and in the six granite columns at the main entrance. The courthouse is one of five St. Cloud places featured in the Backstage Pass series.
Another noticeable feature of the courthouse is its yellow terra cotta dome, which is illuminated at night.
The building underwent a major renovation in 1991 that cost $4.2 million and upgraded heating, cooling and electrical systems, added new windows and elevators and restored the trademark dome. Several other minor renovations have accommodated growth.
These days, the building is home to judges, district and state court administration staff and the county’s law library.
Facts and features:
• The columns at the front entrance to the courthouse are 36 feet high, 4 1/2 feet in diameter and each weigh 50 tons.
• The dome is actually two domes. The one on the inside is 26 feet in diameter. The outside dome is 46 feet in diameter and 109 feet tall.
In between the domes is the space for screens that helped cool the building before its heating and cooling systems were upgraded. Those screens could be opened to create air flow throughout the building. In that space you can also see the wooden forms that were used to create the terra cotta roof tiles.

This table shows the default controls, which can be reset by selecting the "Default" button at the bottom left of the menu screen. I love this game, been playing for quite a while now. But, it seems it takes quite some time to level up just to make basic wandering possible. Is it possible to get some kind of console command system or code list? I'm that kind of person who likes to wander and explore, but i never get too far without something one-shotting me. Here's hoping.
• This is the narrative from the Minnesota Historic Properties Inventory Form, which was part of the submission for the building to be included in the National Register of Historic Places. The building was added to the register in 1982.
“The Beaux Arts style courthouse has a front facade with broad steps and six massive granite columns. Exterior walls are brick with granite and terra cotta. A yellow-tiled dome sits on a low drum base. The building has a profusion of terra cotta detailing. Door and window surrounds have floral patterns, swags and garlands, and inscriptions appropriate to the setting (i.e. 'Where the law ends, tyranny begins.'). The base of the building is marked by tiles with repeating figures. Stone construction is continued in the interior with marble columns and floors. Terra cotta decoration surrounds the archways and rotunda. A mural by St. Paul artist Elsa Jemne depicts early Minnesota life.”
• In addition to the courtrooms and work space above ground, there is a system of tunnels that runs underground and connects the courthouse, the courts facilities building, the Law Enforcement Center and jail and the county administration building.
• Inscribed on the building: “A Landmark of Civic Progress and a Memorial to Sturdy Pioneers.”
• Inside the main foyer is the mural created by Jemne as a tribute to Stearns County’s pioneer heritage. The mural was painted as the building was being built and cost $18,000.
• In 1992, Hollywood filmmakers used the ceremonial courtroom and second floor to film scenes of the movie 'The Mighty Ducks.' Production designers painted a mural inside that courtroom for the movie. The mural remains there. The movie crew also painted existing discs near the ceiling in that room black, to make them look like hockey pucks.
